The Region 6
Homeland Security Governing Board’s Law Enforcement Committee seeks
to provide law enforcement communities with enhanced capabilities for
detecting, deterring, disrupting, and preventing acts of terrorism.
The Homeland Security Grant Program provides financial
assistance to assist jurisdictions in accomplishing Homeland Security
objectives. To assist with that
endeavor, the Law Enforcement Committee was created to accomplish Law
Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program (LETPP) objectives. Committee
membership is comprised of 19 members representing law enforcement agencies
across the region.
A project spearheaded by the Law Enforcement
Committee, and approved by the Governing Board, is “Project
IGNITE”, an information sharing enhancement. This project is designed to expand and
facilitate the sharing of criminal intelligence, crime analysis and
investigative information between law enforcement agencies across the
region. In addition, a project to
enhance the operation of the Grand Rapids Bomb Squad was presented and
approved by the Governing Board.
