Community Preparedness through Regional Collaboration.

The purpose of the Region 6 Homeland Security Planning Board’s Citizen Corps Committee is to embrace personal responsibility to be prepared; provide training in first aid and emergency skills; and volunteer to support local emergency responders, disaster relief, and community safety.

Our region currently has programs in all five areas of the Citizen Corps movement; Volunteers in Police, Fire Corps, Neighborhood Watch, Community Emergency Response Team, and Medical Reserve Corps.

The regional Citizen Corps coordinators have agreed on several programs that address citizen preparedness at all levels.  These include community leaders, large and small businesses, their families, children, pets, neighbors and neighborhoods.  The plans include important language customized for cultural, ethnic, and age-related income groups.  The committee feels that all have a role in hometown security.
